Family Fun is what we do....

If your family has been struggling to find fun activities to do with all the recent lockdowns and restrictions, then here's a story that will resonate with you...

Selina has four kids, aged 15,13, 11 and 9.

For Selina, the weekends are usually spent cleaning, doing laundry, grocery shopping and meal prepping for her busy family so that they can thrive during those hectic weekdays ahead.

Their Saturday nights come too quickly, but she does her best to schedule those evenings for quality time with her beautiful family.

What do they usually do?

Watch movies and eat buckets of popcorn.

There's just one problem...

More often than she would like to admit, her kids have been watching Youtube and Netflix for the better half of the day already, which means that by the time the movie night comes along - they're bored of her movie night idea.

So what do they do instead?

Here's an idea... Family Crafts!

For a limited time, get 15% off a family pack of sign craft kits to do on a slow weekend evening with your family. Choose any stencil designs from our website for your craft kits so that each person can do something unique to their personality.

Choose any stencils from our current catalog and email us after you have placed your order to let us know which ones you would like.

Shop family packs here...

Happy crafting!

What's your passion project?

A passion project is something that, when you're doing it, makes time disappear. It is something that puts your mind at ease and calms you. It's not a school project or something someone else told you to do. A passion project is 100% for you, and you're entirely in charge of the deadlines, time spent on it, and the finished product.

A great question to ask if you haven't started a passion project lately is 'how do I find a new passion project?' Great question! Here's what I do...

1. Make a list of everything you love and enjoy doing. It can be as simple as "I love books, movies, crafting (my personal favorite), cooking, baking, singing, pottery, organizing (yes, some people do like this), decorating, dancing, writing" etc.

2. From that list, circle your top three.

3. From that list, decide which passion you would like to work on first. The idea is to eventually have a passion project for all three, but let's first start with one!

4. Design your passion project in steps, starting with research and planning:

Research: Pinterest is a great resource for getting inspired and I highly recommend it! Simply search whatever your passion is, and start a board of pins specifically with those posts that you like best.

Planning: Make sure to plan at least a few hours each week on your new passion project, so you don't get distracted from it. Remind yourself that your passions matter and that if you're happier then you can treat others around you better - making them happier too!

5. Get started!

Please send us pictures of your most recent passion project. Have a wonderful day!

Let's Craft for Ukraine This March

Like many eastern European descendants in Canada, my husband's family are all from Ukraine.

This crisis has been heartbreaking to watch from afar and is really hitting home for all of us but it's so hard to know how to help from here in Canada...

A few weeks ago I saw a quote from the late Mr. Rogers (he had a pretty insightful mamma!)

If you're like me and you want to help somehow, let's make this month about crafting in support for Ukraine.

So to help, we've decided to dedicate 10% of our March proceeds this month to UNICEF's children's aid in Ukraine.

Here's a clip from their website...

"Escalating conflict in Ukraine poses an immediate and growing threat to the lives and well-being of the country’s 7.5 million children. Humanitarian needs are multiplying – and spreading by the hour. Children have been killed. Children have been wounded. They are being profoundly traumatized by the violence all around them. Hundreds of thousands of people are on the move, and family members are becoming separated from their loved ones.

We must protect all children in Ukraine. Now. They need peace.

The past eight years of conflict in eastern Ukraine have inflicted profound and lasting damage to children on both sides of the line of contact. Now, the suffering extends across the country. Hundreds of thousands are without safe water or electricity due to damage to infrastructure. UNICEF is working to scale up humanitarian delivery in the east and expanding across the country as needed.

If you're interested in supporting, here's a few crafts that we think you might want to do this month for your craft-for-a-cause project...

Or the sunflower is the symbol of solidarity and national flower in Ukraine...

If you would like to craft for a cause with us this month - shop here.

(PS. if you're interested in seeing an ongoing craft-for-a-cause subscription box service from us, please join the waitlist here.)

Thank you for your support!

Quality Crafts Are Rare...

Quality Crafts Are Rare...

As an avid crafter, I find it so hard be proud of my work when the supplies I buy at craft stores are made from low-quality products made and shipped from different countries around the world. When you're trying to create a gift for someone you love and want your handmade product to be beautiful and truly one-of-a-kind, you need to start with the right supplies to make sure that you are happy with your finished project. Just like a chef, we need to start with the best ingredients to proudly give our homemade goods to others!
Here is how we are different...
When it comes to our craft items, we offer a unique variety of quality craft supplies, such as rustic century old reclaimed barn wood (that we deconstruct ourselves!) and ultra-durable cork leather as the canvas for your project. Along with that, your craft kit will include opaque stencil masking vinyl and clear transfer-tape, as well as thick, high-pigment acrylic paints (runny paints are the worst!) + a quality stipple brush that you can use for other stencil projects afterwards too!
It is very important to us to keep you, as our customer, satisfied with your end project by providing quality craft supplies with your kit. After all, it's not just about the crafting experience, it's also about making sure you are proud of what you have made - enough so to give it to someone else! Nobody wants to have to hide their projects in a closet afterwards because it just wasn't what you were expecting it to turn out to be (oh man, we've all been there!)
Don't miss out on our new products and quality craft kit sales happening right now, starting at just $27!
Thank you for your support!

Why We Love Cork Leather...

Why We Love Cork Leather...

Have you checked out our super soft and durable planet-friendly cork leather totes yet? These are a unique statement piece for your wardrobe and lifestyle! Here's a few reasons why we love these cork leather totes so much....
Cork is Sustainable – Cork Oak Trees live for 300 years. Every 9 years, the bark is stripped off the trees as proper maintenance for the trees to continue to grow. Cork is a by-product of a cork oak tree and rapidly renews every 14 years. No trees are damaged in the process of sourcing cork.
Cork is Vegan – A cruelty-free leather alternative that is soft and equally as strong as traditionally animal leathers.
Cork is Water – Resistant – Cork has traditionally been used as wine bottle stoppers because of its amazing water-resistant capabilities. Keep your devices and books safe even in the most severe weather conditions.
Cork is Durable – Crack, abrasions, and tear-resistant. It does not stretch out. Each bag has a fabric strap and lining. An extra seam is stitched into the bottom of each bag to support heavier items and is guaranteed to carry up to 50 lbs.
We promise you will love painting on your cork tote just as much as you love wearing it! Perfect for when you need a grocery bag on hand, or an extra tote for your belongings on a weekend trip. Click Here to visit our online store!
Thank you for supporting the sustainable fashion movement <3

How Our Craft Kits Work!

If you haven't purchased one of our fun craft kits yet, you're probably wondering what they look like when you order them and how they will work when you are painting your one of a kind craft. Here's how it works...

First, you'll receive your package in the mail from our studio, which will include all the supplies you need to paint your beautiful rustic sign or cork tote project. It will look something like this...

Along with your purchase you will receive an email from us including our Youtube Demo, done by Carleyne in our craft studio! At any time, you'll be able to pause this video as you're working on each step to make sure that you never feel rushed during your crafting.

Once you've peeled up your stencils, you will have a finished product but we encourage you to continue detailing your project by outlining, adding shading and highlighting, and any other fun things you would like to add to it.

These craft kits generally takes about 20-45 minutes and is suitable for anyone ages 10 and older! So long as you follow along closely with our demo video, you'll have a beautiful, professional-grade product at the end of your fun craft experience with us!

About Us
June 17, 2020

About Us

Thank you for your interest in our NEW Online Craft Store!

My name is Carleyne and I am the Creative Director here at Rustic Sign Night and here's a bit about us and how we got into this amazing craft business!

Back in 2015, my husband and I started deconstructing barns with a simple thought that we should try to preserve as much of it as possible. Sadly, many people are replacing these beautiful wood structures with steel and metal, which means that there will likely be no more barns made of wood within a hundred years. We began digging and realized that a lot of the wood in these beautiful barns was beautiful hardwood and still in amazing shape for something like home decor. In the fall of 2015, many companies in Calgary were downsizing and I was laid off too from my architecture job. About a week later, I found out I was pregnant with our first son - isn't life a funny thing?

So I began an Etsy store during my maternity leave, and began making custom signs for friends and family nearby. We had an abundance of reclaimed wood now and began brainstorming different ways to use it. One cold February afternoon, I was at home painting some custom orders when I thought I should ask my Facebook community their thoughts on some private events where I would teach them how to paint some trending Etsy signs....And that's how Rustic Sign Night began!

We are so truly blessed to still be doing this five years later and it's all thanks to you and other crafty folks like you! We hope you are excited to be a part of the most AMAZING crafting community and we thank you for supporting our local, husband and wife team. We're just two people out there busting barns down, trying to make a truly unique craft product that you'll be proud to have painted at one of our events.

By supporting Rustic Sign Night you are bringing a piece of our Canadian history into your home that will create a conversation piece for years to come.

After purchasing one of our products, you will receive a beautiful craft kit delivered to your door, along with a Youtube Demo video (made by me in our studio) to follow along on your own time if you would prefer that option.

Contact us at info@rusticsignnight.ca for more info or if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support!

Warmest Regards,
